MOON MUSIC

On the loom of twilight's hush, I'll weave a waltz of words.

A bullfrog bellows out the bass:

Mmm . . . . . Mmm . . . . . Mmm.

A cricket chirps the chords, all in 3/4's time:

Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP.

A grouse adds the drum with a whirr of wings:

D-d-d-d-drum. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP.

A coyote howls a trombone tune:

Aa-roooooo. D-d-d-d-drum. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRPMmm-CHIRP-CHIRP.

A darkened wood of pine, a perfumed puff of wind, the woodwinds join in:

WooOOooosh. Aa-roooooo. D-d-d-d-drum. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP.

Cicadas trill their dotted chorus:

Z.z.z.z.z.z.z.z. WooOOooosh. Aa-roooooo. D-d-d-d-drum. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP.

A soothing solo high above:

Hoo-h’HOO-hoo-hoo. Z.z.z.z.z.z.z.z. WooOOooosh. Aa-roooooo. D-d-d-d-drum.

Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP.

Way down below, a whippoorwill croons:

Whippoorwill. Whippoorwill. Hoo-h’HOO-hoo-hoo. Z.z.z.z.z.z.z.z. WooOOooosh. Aa-roooooo.

D-d-d-d-drum. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP. Mmm-CHIRP-CHIRP.

Queen Anne sways her lacy crown. Ladies slippers tap their toes. Luna flits and flutters round.

A woodcock calls . . . the final chords:

BEEP. BEEP.

All goes hush. The sun is near. The waltz is done.

A redbird cheers:

CHEER. CHEER. CHEER.
